September Qigong: Finding Balance in a New Season

As summer gives way to fall, September brings changes in routines, weather, and daily demands. For those living with fibromyalgia, this transition can be a good time to slow down, check in with your body, and make space for what you need. This month's gentle Qigong practice offers an opportunity to focus on mindful movement, breathing, and connection as you ease into the new season at your own pace.

As September arrives, the change of season brings new routines, cooler days, and a gradual shift from summer into fall. For those living with fibromyalgia, changes in routines, activity levels, sleep, and weather can sometimes affect how we feel. September can be a good time to pause, reassess, and create routines that support your energy and well-being.

This month's Qigong lesson offers a gentle opportunity to slow down, focus on your breathing, and bring mindful movement into your day. Qigong can provide a quiet space to check in with your body and mind without adding pressure to do more.

Fibromyalgia Association Canada (FAC) encourages you to approach the transition into fall in a way that works for you. As routines become busier, remember that you don't have to do everything at once. Breaking activities into smaller steps, pacing yourself, taking rest breaks, and allowing flexibility in your plans can help you manage your available energy.

September is also a time to reconnect with others. FAC's Peer Support initiatives offer opportunities to connect with people who understand the challenges of living with fibromyalgia. Sharing experiences, listening to others, and knowing that you are understood can help reduce feelings of isolation and create a sense of connection.

There is no single approach to managing fibromyalgia that works for everyone. Qigong, mindful movement, pacing, rest, and connection with others are some of the strategies you may choose to explore. Pay attention to how your body responds and give yourself permission to adapt your approach when needed.

As we move into a new season, remember that taking care of yourself doesn't have to mean doing more. Sometimes, small and intentional changes can make everyday life a little more manageable.

Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and drained by the uncertainty and changes taking place in the world? You aren't alone!

Carolynne invites you to join her in a 60-minute moving meditation designed to help you gain energy, relax, calm your mind, and bring your attention to your inner world. Qi gong is a gentle, easy ancient Chinese practice that can be done by anyone, anywhere, at any time. It utilizes focused breathing, visualization, movement, and sound to unblock the blockages in the body created by stress, leaving you feeling relaxed, peaceful, and invigorated. Its beauty lies in its simplicity, effectiveness, and flexibility.

You don’t need any experience or special equipment. You can stand, sit or lie down during the practice. You DO NEED a place where you won’t be disturbed for 60 minutes. Please turn OFF ALL electronic devices. This is your time for a little self-care!

Dress in loose, comfortable clothes and have a chair nearby to sit on or hold onto. Bring along a smile and an open heart, then let the energy soothe you. You may also have some water available for after the practice.
