If you already have the Disability Tax Credit approved and you’ve filed your taxes, it’s a good idea to apply. The application link is above. Even if you apply later, you may receive retroactive payments (back to June 2025).

It’s important to plan ahead when applying for the Canada Disability Benefit. Payments are not automatic, even if you already receive the Disability Tax Credit, and delays may occur if tax information is missing or needs to be updated. Applying early can reduce gaps in payment, especially for people with fluctuating conditions like fibromyalgia. Because benefit amounts are income-tested and reassessed annually, changes in employment, marital status, or household income may affect future payments. Keeping your tax filings up to date every year is essential to remain eligible. If your circumstances change, updating Service Canada promptly can help avoid overpayments or interruptions. While the benefit amount is limited, understanding how and when payments are calculated can help with budgeting and financial planning.

For more on the Canada Disability Benefit go here https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/disability/canada-disability-benefit.html

For Information on Canada Disability Tax Credit go here https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/segments/tax-credits-deductions-persons-disabilities/disability-tax-credit.html

For more "How to Series" documents go here https://fibrocanada.ca/en/how-to-series

Canada Disability Credit : For people living with fibromyalgia, the Canada Disability Benefit provides modest federal financial support of up to $200 per month, and in some cases this amount may be reduced or offset by provincial or territorial programs.
