Understanding the diagnosis and treatment of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome<\/strong>) and <strong>fibromyalgia<\/strong> are chronic conditions that often overlap, sharing symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and pain. While POTS primarily affects the autonomic nervous system, causing dizziness, rapid heart rate, and fainting, fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread pain and sleep disturbances. Both conditions can significantly impact quality of life, and understanding their connections can help guide treatment approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">In this presentation Kate will discuss the causes of POTS, how POTS is diagnosed, and what treatments can be used to help reduce symptoms.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&nbsp;<strong>Dr. Kate Bourne, PhD<\/strong>&nbsp;is a medical student in the Leaders in Medicine program at the University of Calgary. Kate&nbsp;recently completed her PhD in Dr. Satish Raj's Lab where<strong> her research focused on the impacts of POTS<\/strong> on patients as well as non-pharmacological treatment options including compression garments.&nbsp;During her graduate work Kate held a CIHR Vanier Scholar Award.
